Style Tile
The style tile I created served as a visual reference when creating the high fidelity mockups. I wanted the fundraising site to fit in with World Bicycle Relief’s existing branding so I utilized visual elements already in place to develop a fresh concept.
Storytelling
The interactive hero images at the top of the page, tell a story of what life is like for students in Kenya. When people are able to recognize and empathize with the needs of others it helps them feel connected, and they are motivated to donate. I focused heavily on storytelling in the opening images of the site, to engage and entice users to learn more about World Bicycle Relief’s mission.
Icons
I created all the icons used on the hero image slideshow. The icons are representative of what is going on in the story. Each one represents a stop on the student’s path and are used to elicit interaction with the story.
Progress
Showing progress helps give donors a sense of transparency. It shows them where there money is going. As a take on a traditional fundraising thermometer, I created a wheel thermometer. As more money is donated the progress bar fills and shows how many bikes have been funded. Alternatively when the user hovers over the wheel, they are shown how many lives have been impacted by their contribution.
Suggested Donations
From interviews we conducted with potential donors we learned people often feel guilty that they are not able to give enough. Making suggestions at all levels helps them feel their contributions are making a difference and motivates them to contribute whatever they can. I created an interactive element for the page that suggests donation amounts ranging from $5 up to $1470.
Illustrations
I created illustrations to be used at each interval to show donors how their contribution is being applied.
Mobile
The site was designed with a responsive layout and I worked closely with a front end developer to ensure the design and content were consistent across devices.
