DESIGN BRIEF:

Day to day products that we use are not all friendly for the blind. When one tracks down the products that a sighted individual uses everyday compared to the ones that a blind person uses, a difference is seen. How can one enhance the usability of these products for the blind too and make life easy? How can they be more intuitive to use?

In the world of product design where the user is the most important, products are made according to the comfort and intuitive behavior of the user. The blind adapt to these products, techniques and ways of life to be able to live the way a sighted person would. This process needs to change, products need to be designed specifically keeping in mind their concerns too. And may be this process could help in creating more universal products.

I looked at making cooking products more ‘blind friendly’ to avoid accidents and enhance growth of the visually impaired that is less to do with adapting more to do with intuitiveness. These products should ideally be low cost, easy to use, repairable and replacable, as blindness mostly happens in the low strata of the society and its not fair that the only way for a blind person to live a comfortable life is by the use of expensive technology.

FUNNEL BOWL
Often when certain ingredients like maida, milk, etc need to me measured, they are either filled ina meauring container carefully or a blind person keep his thumb to check if it has reached a certain level.
The funnel bowl helps remove this worry completely by directing the spillage into a storage form where it could be put back into the container.
MEASURING CAPS
Varying sizes of caps that attach to a container that hold unit measurement of volumes.
These caps act like measuring cups but remove the act of pouring and measuring to avoid spilling of the content.
TEXTURED HEAT
A surface that lets you know whether the container is hot through texture (concept product)
