GR 434 - Typography 4: Refinement of Form
Instructor: Ariel Grey
Project: Experimental Conference - EN:SCR_PT: Transcribing the Human Genome
Summer 2015

[Objective]
Design a conference of extreme conceptual/ experimental content about a topic that addresses an aspect of the future put on by an existing organization. The job will include designing a 56 page conceptual book, promotional poster, a kinetic video, and an entrance badge for iPhone.

[Strategy]
Each person has their own unique set of DNA and holds thousands of genetic codes that program our bodies to function. DNA could also be used to store and transmit data in form of a DNA sequence. What if human DNA and technology converge to create a cryptic language that no algorithm can solve? DNA cryptography is a technique in which each letter of the alphabet is converted into a different combination of the four bases that make up the human deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA).

[Message]
Today we live in a world where we are so immersed in social media that we are unaware of what is going on with our private information. In order to protect that sensitive data, we must come up with a strategic and secure solution for a cyber environment.

[Concept]
The book starts off light and transparent sympbolizing our vulnerability and progresses to become more solid and opaque to represent a sense of security. Our body’s unique DNA sequences will allow us to formulate our own unique encryption language in order to better conceal our private information and data. A series of formulas, charts experimental typography and abstract work to illustrate the idea.
