Working with runes is something the I've put off for ages. Like any calligraphy, there’s a mindset to the brush strokes, a stillness one has to achieve to get the feel for the lines, and it took some time before I felt I had that sort of a feel for it. These are done with a wide plain brush using a dilution of four parts water and one part black textile screen printing ink. The collection of runes is the Elder Futhark, and there exist a couple variations of rune presentation that had to be chosen between. Research indicated that in general, one version of a rune was reasonably close to being as valid as another, so I chose a stroke pattern that made it feel happy about how things looked, rather than struggling over which was more official. With any luck, this won't bother the folks who understand this stuff better than I too much.
