MEJERI (dairy in Swedish) is a set for making butter and other dairy products at home.

The set is made of ceramic dishes, contrastive matt lids with cork elements. The form of the dishes is inspired by the shape of traditional milk containers. I wanted the set to be as simple as possible, but simultaneously very esthetic with a bit of Scandinavian touch.

Butter making process is based on milk from vending machines, which is the easiest way to buy fresh raw, unpasteurized milk in a city. It provides 24/7 service is many locations in most of the cities in Europe. What is more, nearly the whole profit goes directly to the farmer.

The MEJERI consists of three ceramic vessels with plastic lids and a whisk. The most important is the butter churn with the whisk. That's the heart of the set. The place where our organic butter is born.

The Second vessel is the cream skimming dish. It can contain up to 1,5 L of milk. Fresh milk is poured into it, and after a day or two we can skim the cream and put it into the churn.

The smallest dish provides vacuum storage of butter by putting the lid with it into the bowl filled with water. That's very old, a bit forgotten way of keeping butter fresh without the need of a fridge.

The target users are people who are living in cities. There are more and more people who lead a healthy lifestyle. They are looking for organic, non industrial food. The set is designed for those who want to enjoy real taste of dairy products with no chemical additives. What is more, when we are making food products ourselves we can be sure about the ingredients and it's quality. There's also this great interaction with the user. I believe that it has a significant effect for the way the user sees the food he/she eats.

One part of the MEJERI is an app for mobile devices. It enables users to find the nearest milk vending machine. It helps to make dairy products or to find more information about them.
