One book with 100 spreads about 10 numbers


Concept

'00–99' is a book dedicated to 10 simple digits, from 0 to 9. Each digit is presented in 17 different images none of which shows the actual symbol. Images in the book make you think of a particular digit by provoking associations. Associations used in this book are connected to art, films/cartoons, traditions, religions, shapes, typography and punctuation, technology and urban life, etc. The appendix explains each association for an educational purpose.The main aim of this book is to make people be curious, make them think and establish a new relationship with each number. 

Structure

The book is divided into 10 sections of 10 spreads. Each of them is dedicated to one digit. The left pages always contain the figure in different typeface (10 typefaces per section = 100 typefaces in the book). The right pages contains images. The negative space of the right pages represents numbers from 0 to 9. It is constantly changing while the left page indicates the section number. (3:0, 3:1, 3:2, ..., 3:9). According to this system numeric spreads start with 0:0 and end with 9:9. Thus, altogether the book has 100 spreads about numbers. 

Technology

The book is wholly handmade: laser printing is combined with silkscreen. All images are screenprinted with fluorescent inks that makes the book look mysterious and fantastic under the UV light.

Associations are either connected to the shape of the digit or play with the usage of the number in brands, titles, traditions, etc.
Each section has 10 different patterns.
Each section starts with a pattern made out of a digit. The patterns shown above are made out of 2, 6 and 5 respectively.
The Appendix explains each association.
