Cover Mock-up: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

This is a mock cover I made for the amazing book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Phillip K. Dick. My approach to creating a cover was to combine my 3D and 2D skills in one piece. This book deals with a lot of heavy concepts and it's no easy task to capture that in one image. So my solution was to create an image that reflects the tradition of 80s sci-fi imagery and combine it with some of the important events in the book. For the background I created a wall of greeble like pieces to resemble the post apocalyptic environment that the book takes place in. A major theme in the book is the fact that most live animals are extinct since the apocalyptic events that happened so they became replaced by electric animals. So in direct relation to the title I chose a lamb's head. The six-legged spider is taken directly from a scene where the antagonists torment a real live spider by ripping off it's back legs. Then I mashed them all together and played around with the colors in photoshop and change the color of the extreme lighting to something that hopefully looks more retro. All in all it was a fun assignment and I plan to experiment a lot more with mixed media 2D & 3D projects like this in the future.
