A Moment at an Eskimo Exhibition

RISD Foundations - Design

This is a painting inspired by a moment in the novel, The Catcher in the Rye, by J. D. Salinger. The protagonist of the novel, Holden Caulfield, is a distressed teenager that hates the constant change he sees in society. That is why one of his favorite places to visit, even when he was a child, is the Museum of Natural History, where the many exhibitions, incluing the Eskimo exhibition, does not change and has not changed in a very long time. It comforts him to see something that is constant for a change.
