Creative Problem Solving (Cereal Box)

Cereal Box
Kashi Go Lean Reflection Paper
This cereal box project brought about many issues andproblems for me. I was first unsure howwe were supposed to recreate our own box exactly. As I got started on it I began to solve manyproblems that arose. The first problem Iencountered was the template of the cereal box. I talked with several students from class and then from there I came upwith what I thought would be the best way to go about it.
I started by scanning my box in four differentscans. I then took these four scans andpieced them together in Photoshop. OnceI was happy with how this looked I opened the file in Illustrator and used thepen tool to trace around the edges of the images to create a template. From this I got a pretty good template butthen added guides to ensure I had straight and accurately measured lines forthe box template.
After I wassatisfied with my template I saved it as a PDF. This is when I began the actual recreation portion. I used InDesign to do this part. The problems that arose in this part of theproject were trying to find the correct fonts to use for all the differentportions of text that were on my box. Ialso had a few issues with different pictures that needed to be touched up orfix so I used the spot healing tool to do so. Another thing that caused me a little trouble was some of the designs onthe box. On the back there was adashed/dotted circle that went behind the text. I first started by bringing this in as an image but it just didn’t workright. So I decided that it would be bestif I just created it myself. It wasn’t toohard to do since it’s only a circle.
I did all my recreation work in InDesign. The only thing that I didn’t redo in InDesign was the GOLEAN logo that’s all over thebox. I used Illustrated and did a live traceand converted the image into a vector. With this I could change its color and size very quickly andeasily. It seemed like the best processfor this particular part of my box. Overall I really used the tools and techniques that InDesign has to offerto recreate my cereal box.
My final product I believe is very good. It looks just like the actual cereal box justa little smaller due to our printing process. Overall I am very pleased with my results from this project. I learned many things like time managementand problem solving. I addressedmultiple problems and took care of them all. This project has taught me to take advantage of the little free timethat I have and use it wisely. It tookme a while to complete this project but I focused and got it done on time.
