Claustrophobia – Spatial distortion

Claustrophobia - Spatial distortion
Space-project I.

In this school project, we had to work with a phobia, a type we are connected with. I have fears, but fortunately not affecting my day to day life, so I chose a phobia, in which I was interested its background, the way it evolved and I experience to a small degree.
This is claustrophobia.

I called on a technique which substitutes feeling claustrophobic due to enclosed, spaces of stenosis. So I used pinhole camera photography, which is a technology I first experimented with during the project. Initially a simple pinhole camera (pinhole camera box) was used, which was later replaced by a pinhole camera created by using a beer can, which easily achieved the effect I hoped for.

In the publication I am working on the theme that the relationship with what we are all born with regarding space and develop spatial perception and their potential distortions. I borrowed my ideas from mostly Hungarian authors who published their topic of Space Poetics in the special issue of the journal Helicon (János Kállai, JA Tillmann, Tamás Tényi).

Special thanks to Norbert Farkas experimenting with me with pinhole photography and to Balázs Varga for the photos about the printed materials!
