An Eye for and Eye: A work in progress.
The idea behind this collection of work focuses on the true story of a brutal acid attack inflicted on an Iranian woman. The attacker was caught, however she as the victim invoked her right to legally use "Qisas" roughly translated to "Retribution". Iranian courts still recognize a victims right to use an eye for an eye as a legal punishment, therefore her request was granted and the attacker was ordered to be taken to a Hospital and blinded with acid as his victim was.
What I have done (so far) is storyboard the crucial elements within this story in a very dark "Comic book style" and then pulled out shapes within the imagery to make some Ceramic Sculptures. The form used is loosely based on the image of the acid being thrown in the woman's face.
What I am hoping to achieve from these pieces is to create beautifully inviting forms that people immediately want to touch and hold and explore from such an horrific story.
Is there beauty in Horror? This is the question I am hoping to answer.
