For this brief we had to create an A2 promotional poster combining typography with figure photography and an event invitation in celebration of the type foundries 30th year of designing fonts and letter forms.
I chose the Type Foundry Hoefler & Co. as I love their work and feel most of it is very classy and elegant, the type of fonts I would usually use. For my poster I really wanted to incorporate how I see Hoefler & Co. and play on a theme of the event. The theme that I want to bring in subtly is; Reflection. The event would revolve around reflecting on the past 30 years of Hoefler & Co.
I chose two of my favourite typefaces of H&Co., that clearly show how classic and elegant they are. For the photography aspect I really wanted to show the Typeface almost as a person, while still incorporating reflection. The imagery used is a mix of reflection and elegance being represented. One sees the woman, representing the particular style, and being reflected in the large ‘30’ vector I created, almost giving the feeling of there being more than one mirror.
Playing with the idea of reflections, it seems the list of typefaces on the left is a reflection of the imaging on the right. I chose gold to go with the black and white, to bring through the elegance and the level of quality they produce. It was also important for me to represent the maturity of Hoefler & Co and the idea of their experience of thirty years of type design.
