DestinationDC
This is a mock-up of a concept for a D.C. Metro Area magazine. The concept was to create a publication that featured local attractions that could be accessed easily from the metro system in D.C., Virginia, and Maryland. Each Feature article will contain graphic elements that match the color of the metro line nearest to the discussed location. This gives our readers the means and motive to experience the subject matter for themselves. The departments featured multiple locations, sometimes on more than one metro line, so they are displayed in purple as there is not a purple line.
A Modern Day Fairy Tale
The Grimm Brothers wrote many fairy tales that have seen modern day adaptations. Movies like The Little Mermaid and Tangled are based on their works and have risen to popularity by putting these classic stories in modernized settings. The point of this book design was to take a lesser known Grimm Tale and rewrite it in a modern setting. The cover is meant to evoke the spooky and mysterious atmosphere that saturates these stories.
Numerals
Our numbers and the symbols that represent them have evolved over thousands of years, but it’s interesting to think of how you would design them yourself if you had a chance. Here is a take on numerals from one to ten.
Designer Trading Cards
The concept for this project was to create collectible trading cards for the famous and influential designers of the world. The front of the card would display designs inspired or created by the featured designer. The back would have a bio in a font they created or are known for working with as well as their name. The cards for more recognizable artists would be more extravagant and harder to find compelling customers to search for their favorite designer.
Type Posters
These posters were developed to outline not only what makes them unique, but how they differ from one another. It clearly outlines the origins of each font and explains them in detail.
Music Festival
Punk rock is heavily inspired by the Russian constructivist movement. Ideals like rebellion, individuality, and rejection of established hierarchy are emblazoned on denim jackets and rally posters with equal fervor. Either way the message is the same, rise up, fight back, live fast. It seemed a logical progression to have the two worlds collide. Whether summoning you for a battle against the regime or the man the imagery works equally well.
Scott Pilgrim vs. The Poster
This poster was created entirely in Illustrator in an attempt to create a piece of art that mimics old school 16-32 bit video games. The background and the two characters on the right are recreations of actual backgrounds and characters from the game.
Design Blog
Although blog isn’t a perfect term as the website features much more. Here you can see the home page with icons displaying feature articles or attractions. Every graphic was developed specifically to fit into the theme and color palette of the rest of the website. You will still see typical blog elements on the website including personal musings and reviews as well as links to my own work.
Lizardman Game Studio
This creative suite is for a video game development company called Lizardman Game Studio. The concept behind the studio is a company that creates new spins on classic video games who’s licenses have expired or are inexpensive. The games will be funded using crowdsourcing and the players will be involved in the games development. The use of classic video game icons like old fashioned controllers and joysticks in a cleaner more modern design layout to represent the two worlds colliding.
The Bitter End
The Bitter End is a line of cocktail bitters inspired by great scribes who were as famous for drinking as they were for
writing. This line is based entirely around Edgar Allan Poe.
The flavors are named after his stories and each story used for inspiration is featured in the front of the box. Poe himself is the spokesperson for the product and is featured in ads and on merchandise. The graphics and fonts are inspired by traditional speakeasy and the writings of Poe.
About Me
I am a driven individual who’s greatest strengths and interests lie in the conceptual end of the design process. My work up to this point has been excellent for improving my ability to construct and execute my ideas no matter how uncommon they are. A brilliant designer once told me “Design is where form meets function” and I have taken that to heart. The best designs in the world are just as much fun to look at as they are to interact with. I am currently in search of a professional environment where I can work hard at continuing to grow and improve my skills.
