PayStream Insights Survey

 
PayStream is an accountancy firm for contractors that provides umbrella company services, limited company services, general accountancy services and expert IR35 advice. Their client base is made up of self-employed contractors, and the recruitment agencies through whom the contractors tend to find work.
 
In Spring 2014, PayStream were ready to publish the results of their first Contractor Insights Survey. It was the first time survey data had been put together in a document that could be shared externally, and the client was keen to use it as a tool to start conversations with agencies.
 
We worked the results into a document with three sections, separating the different types of questions. The design visualised the results in the PayStream brand style, with characters to bring the data to life and provide visual meaning to support the numerical.
 
mark-making* determined the best way to present each result, based on the type of data and the figures to be communicated. Some simpler questions offered the opportunity to be playful with bold simple visuals to convey the information. In other cases, multiple responses required very clear, organised design to make sense of more complicated statistics.
 
There are plans to create infographics from the headline results, for use on social media to help boost engagement with contractors and agencies alike.
