For this project Vega asked their first year Visual Communicators to design and execute three covers for three cellphones. These covers had to have one central concept or theme. To accompany these covers we were also required to design the packaging that we planned for them to be displayed in for hypothetical sales purposes.
I chose to deisgn a series of Blackberry 8520 model cellphone covers. I chose this brand and model because not only was that my brand of phone at the time, but because there were still many teens and young adults still using the phone, which was the exact target market I was aiming at. I believed that the youth between the ages of sixteen to twenty one would be interested in the style and the theme that I had to offer.
My chosen theme was cute characters, more specificallycute monsters, and I chose this because most young adults do, in fact, still watch cartoons. I know personally that a lot of people within my age group watch cartoon series religiously, one namely being Adventure Time, where some of my inspiration for my character designs rooted. Although the design is simple its still effective in its cuteness.
For the actual design of my covers I chose to use complimentary colours within the background of the cover design to compliment those of the actual monster character designs. As you see I also carried the theme of cute monsters into my packaging design and made my box an actual monster. The top flap of the box, that you would open to view the "product", was the monsters mouth. I also decided to cover the box in a white fluffy fabric to add texture to the box, creating intregue to potential customers when passing the package and encouraging then to interact with it, thus hopefully coaxing them into purchase of the product.
I believe that I produced a functional and appealing package and product with my chosen theme of cute monsters. I feel it had th epotenmtial to reach my attended target audience as it appeals to their tastes and gets in touch with their almost fading inner child. Also it's super cool. =P
