Make Sense

Brief
As a group, you will need to collect, filter, analyse and organise a selected data set. You are asked to propose an appropriate and creative visual communication of this data. Your proposal should refer to diagrammatic display as well as other information mapping techniques.

The medium, format and scale of the final piece should be data and concept driven.

Our Final Outcome
As a team, we decided to gather our data ourselves: our data set comprised of the liquid each of us consumed over the period of a week. We recorded what drink we drank, how much in ml and the location in which we drank it. We decided to map this data together as one.

When analysing the data, we realised the only common location where each of the four of us consumed liquid was Ravensbourne, our university. From here, we worked out each of the locations in terms of distance from Ravensbourne, and mapped each individuals' liquid consumption in terms of the amount at each location, using ink droplets. Each of us had a different colour assigned to us, making the piece quite visually intriguing.

From this, we created a final piece of the liquid consumption of our team at different locations and the amount we consumed, as well as a video showcasing how the final piece was created.

We have placed an acetate film over the top of the final piece, in order to give the audience a better understanding of what the piece represents.\

What I find fascinating about this piece is that each time that we would recreate this piece, the outcome would be different, making each piece unique.
