Adobe and Girl Skateboards were looking for five students to intern at Girl HQ, create their next line of boards, and develop the promo materials to make it big.

I was lucky enough to be one of the five students selected and I completed the internship remotely from New Zealand via email and video call. This has been such an amazing experience for me and I am so grateful for the opportunity given to myself and the four other students.

The brief for this project was really open, we just had to create an illustration based on the work that we submitted at the initial selection stage. I based this design from my 'Behind the Man' project. I wanted to continue with the bear because it's a strong animal and shows a lot of emotion and dominance. I also wanted to make the illustration unique by incorporating Maori elements into the design. I used Maori patterning within the detail on the bear and gave him a taiaha to hold (a traditional weapon of the New Zealand Maori).

I created my design on Adobe Photoshop, using my Wacom Bamboo tablet to draw in all the details. This was a time intensive project for me as I was working mostly at 200-300% zoom to fit in all the intricate patterning.
