Justus of Type: Walbaum

I embarked on one of my earliest projects, dedicated to acquiring knowledge in identifying fonts, understanding their characteristics, and classifying them based on typeface categories. In my case, I focused on studying the Walbaum typeface. As a graphic designer, it is crucial to have the ability to recognize a vast array of typefaces. Hence, it is essential for students to commence their learning journey by familiarizing themselves with the various parts of a letter, terminology, and classifying typefaces into major historical categories: Old Style, Transitional, Modern, Slab Serif, and Sans Serif.

This project served as a significant milestone in achieving these objectives. Our task was to become experts on our chosen typeface and effectively convey our knowledge to others through the creation of two posters. The first poster aimed to visually represent the characteristics of our font, while the second poster provided in-depth information about the typographer who created our font and its historical background.

Throughout the project, we encountered the challenge of highlighting the twelve key characteristics that distinguish our font from others. This involved employing techniques such as text hierarchy, color, and other design elements. After numerous iterations and exploration, we ultimately arrived at the final two posters, which needed to be coherent and easily comprehensible to viewers.
