A walk through NYC Times Square in 1999 brought me to Monica Banks' Faces: Times Square, a block-long sculpture composed of 34 faces forged from a continuous line of 1.5" diameter steel bar, woven in and out of a custom made fence, which graced the traffic median between 45th and 46th Streets, and 7th Avenue and Broadway from 1996-2009. They were commissioned as a result of the artist winning the Excellence in Design award from The Art Commission of the City of New York.
