Waloq
game controller for World of Warcraft
The concept was developed within Interaction Design department at Chalmers University of Technology, as a three days exercise. (Team work with Kaspar Raats, Mikael Danell, Johannes Andersson)
The main intention was to enhance user experience byreversing the current trend that pushes everything to the virtual environment,by reversing this trend, bringing a piece of the virtual environment into thephysical, virtual becoming tangible.
The controller is broadly characterized by thegenerous size of the touch pad that has the specialcharacteristic of being flexible. This way, the gestures performed for different actionswill become more realistic.
The touch buttons used for spells can vary between 5 and 30. The user will be able to configure them in layers when the number is higher than ten, according with the level of gaming experience.
Beside the flexible touchpad, "Waloq" uses an accelerometer and gyroscope for "in air gameplay" and pressure sensors for "on desk gameplay".
The ergonomic design and integrated buttons on the battery allows adding an extra function, thus the user can use the battery as a mouse by turning it upside down.
