This cover was prepared as a part of a competition entry for Penguin Design awards.
The Outsiders is a coming of age novel by Author S.E. Hinton. The book follows two rival groups, the Greasers and the Socs (short for Socialites), who are divided by their socio- economic status.

The book talks about the protagonist’s best friends Johnny’s fear of the Socs as they corner and hurt him. The description of these bullies is described as Socs wearing rings (as the rings had done some damage to the boy as well). The story takes an unexpected turn because of this fear. That is the fear I have tried to show on the cover as it is an important detail of the story that could otherwise easily be overlooked.
