"The Castle of Carretto - Project of restoration and enhancement of a medieval castle's ruins"

The project of this thesis regards the ruins of the medieval castle situated in Carretto, a little town near Cairo Montenotte, in the inland of Savona (Liguria - Italy). 
In this territory there are many medieval sites with ruins of castles and churches, realized by the Del Carretto's family, that controlled the area in medieval period. 
The project is composed in different steps of work: research about the history of castle, study and analysis of ruins, analysis about the level of decay; the project of restoration of structures and materials and the project of reuse and enhancement of the site for tourism.
The idea is to conserving the ruin without distorting its image and structure: after the conservative restoration of walls and tower, making safe the site and structures and stopping the decay, the project want to reuse the ruin and give it a new function.
The project involves the improvement of accessibility and use of the site to give the opportunity to the visitor to discover the castle.
