Alternate Reality Game Nieuw-Vennep
De gestolen ambtsketen van de burgermeester
This is a project I was part of in school. We were supposed to make an Alternate Reality Game in Nieuw-Vennep, the Netherlands, to raise money for charity. The targeted players were children in the age of 9-12 years.

The chain of the mayor was stolen and by playing the game, the kids were supposed to figure out who did it and return the chain so the mayor could do his job once more. The kids were asked to help Detective Huller finding the chain back. Detective Huller would work in his office (which I did the design for) and would get help from Professor Franken, who works in the basement and isn't available at the start of the game. Professor Franken would get available when the timer on the vault would run out and the kids would get access to the laboratory of the professor. In the meantime the kids could collect hints and evidence and put those on the bulletinboard or store it in the computer.

I designed everything in this game except for the basement of the professor, which is a minigame and the moneymaker of the game. The kids were supposed to collect plastic bottles (which you get 25 cents for at any supermarket in the Netherlands) and the amount of bottles collected would represent the amount of bottles they could play the game with. The group with the most bottles would make more points.

Below you'll find some screenies of the parts of the game I was responsible for. This includes the entrance, the office and the UI of the computer. I also added a video which I didn't help make but was part of the game. I think it's a shame to let it go to waste.

The game itself wasn't acted out as we hoped for due to lack of time, which was a shame since the pressure to finish it was high.

This was the online part of our ARG, which is no longer online since the game played out.
