Fragola - A short handcrafted stop motion

DESCRIPTION

A short animated movie that combines digital and analog techniques. The story revolves around an old italian woman, Donna Amalia, who gets annoyed by the sound of a boy playing with the ball next door. So one day she pierces the ball and in the movie we discover how this affects her life.

This academic project is a collaboration between Lucia Cosma, Lamiaa Diab and Casilda de Zulueta, while we were exchange students at the Köln International school of Design.

PROCESS

As soon as the story was set, we imagined the style of the house where Amalia lives in.
We took inspiration from the places we knew in our countries. We collected a lot of pictures in order to have a clear inspiration for building all the assets of the house.
The idea was to have a 3D enviroment, created out of paper and cardboard, while using characters as 2D paper cut-outs.
Here are the steps we went through:

1. QUICK MOCK-UP
2. Planning the rooms
3. designing the objects
4. Coloring Cardboards + laser cutting
5. Building the assets
6. Finalizing the walls
7. Other props
8. Building the set
9. Shooting
