BIO-ART FESTIVAL, 2013
NATIONAL CENTRE FOR BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES

The satisfaction, fulfilment and joy that one gets after designing and creating something right from scratch to seeing it actually stand infront of you is completely incredible. Working diligently would result to sore hands and complete exhaustion, but each one of us worked with the same enthusiasm each new day. Working under our facilitator, Mr. Jackson Porretta, on this wonderful piece of architecture was made by using biodegradable materials as a part of the Hacteria Fest, 2013, organized by the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Bangalore.
The process involved cutting and splitting the bamboo into thin, long strips, weaving them into one another inorder to create the frame of the huge structure, fixing the plastic fasteners, sifting earth, mixing cow dung to the sand, making them into balls, carefully placing and building them along the giant bamboo structure and finally, smoothening and plastering the walls with a mixture of sand and flour (maida) paste.
Getting an hands on experience with these materials made me understand the strength and flexibility of bamboo and the strong, binding nature of cow dung and sand.
