Student Work: Limnos - Edible Packaging

The Idea

Problem:  People don’t recycle their Limnos Bakers packaging properly and even if they do, access to recycling bins is limited.

Solution:  Create packaging that is edible - so that you want to dispose of it properly.
The shell of the packaging is in essence, sweetened dried pasta. This means that it’s fairly strong and easy to make.

What is it made From?

The Wrap
The Wrap is made from rice paper and printed using soya ink.

The Sticker
The sticker is edible and is made from Sugar, Water, Modified corn starch, Citric acid, Red Beet concentrate and Sodium Bicarbonate.

How to make the Shell of the Packaging
Put 3 eggs, 2 Tbs hot water, 2 cups cake flour,1 tsp cinnamon, 1 Tbs icing sugar and ½ Tbs vanilla essence in a blender. Place pasta ball in a mound of flour then roll it out until it’s smooth using a pasta roller (level 5). Drape the pasta on the mould and using your hands flatten out all the edges and joins. Leave to dry till hard (usually 7 hours).
