Extension
17 Gravel Hill
17 Gravel Hill is a bungalow which has had a loft conversion and refurbishment in recent years. The property is well set back from street and has a very heavily planted boundary to Gravel Hill. Footprint architects have been appointed to design a rear extension as well as extend the property with a first floor to include new bedrooms. Structural insulated panels are used to construct the new first floor and roof. The proposed design aims to use high quality materials and finishes. These include cedar cladding, PPC aluminium windows, new render and a sedum roof covering to the single storey extension. The choice of materials and concept aims to create a dwelling which has more architectural cohesion to the existing. This is achieved by the rear single storey extension stepping down to the garden level which in turn reduces overlooking and creates a streamlined form. The box element cantilevers slightly on two sides to give the impression that it is floating over the solid rendered walls below. The project is currently on site, with expected completion in late September.
