This piece was created out of custom-carved rubber stamps and ink. It was created for an assignment in my pre-college course at School of Visual Arts. For this assignment we were to choose a song and create a piece, entirely constructed out of rubber stamp prints, that evokes the feeling or meaning of the song. I chose the song "Let It Be" by The Beatles. To evoke the feeling of the song, I experimented with pressure and color to express different periods in the song. It starts out slow and soft, fading into an intense guitar solo and chorus, and then fades out again into a softer conclusion. The black fades from light to dark, representing the transition in the music. The red is in the middle because it's a bold color and the guitar solo is the most intense part of the song. It fades from dark blue to light blue to represent the song going from a rock solo to a soft melody once again. I chose squiggles to represent the song because I felt it represented how well the song flows. The spacing between the letters in the "let it be" text also represents the flow of the song. At first, the letters are spread apart to show how slow the song goes, and then in the middle the letters squish together to show the intensity of the guitar solo and the middle of the song. At the end, the letters space out once again, as the song goes back to being quiet and slow.
