SALIENT FEATURES OF PROPOSED SPATIAL RE-ORGANIZATION
•Using the double height lobby near the entry as a waiting lounge and security/property counter
•Traffic has been segregated into separate zones (based on ranges) for visitors (limited to ground floor) and students; thereby ensuring the sanctity of the library
•Restricted areas for micro documents and public policydocuments have been limited to the basement due to nature of documents and based on use
•Ground floor accommodates the auditorium and e-resourcecentre for visitors, while also containing the newspaper stand, currentperiodicals and bound periodicals.
•First floor accommodates the 24 hours reading area for students with exclusive entry, chief librarian’s office, assistant and deputylibrarians, ALIO, staff workstations, seminar hall/apprentice training,committee room, publications, bound volumes, photocopy section, discussion andreading spaces
•Most of the stacks, and further reading and discussion spaces are found on the second floor
•Creation of a central point of interest within the library which is in line with the general concept of the campus - "to feel the presence of nature even while they are inside. By creating such an environment, theactivities pursued within the building become enriched because they become onewith the larger total world.”•
Circulation desk brought ahead to ensure remaining floor space is well utilized
•Information desk at the lounge to invite and greet visitorsto the library•
Formal committee meeting room present on the first floor,yet connected to the rest of the library and outside through the garden court outside
•Presence of abundant greenery and art installations tocreate focal points within the library and connected to all floors
•Stacking areas interspersed with reading areas to ensure the dynamism of the environment•
