Koothandavar festival at koovagam, a small village in vilupuram district, Tamilnadu happens every year on chitra pournami . during this time transgenders from all over india visits this koothandavar temple. they marry lord Koothandavar reenacting the story from Mahabharatha, where lord krishna marries him after taking a form of woman called Mohini. The next day after lord koothandavar is killed in the war. Those transgenders who are rittually married to him the day before now express their grief for becoming a widow by wearing white saree. This is a festival of love and loss.
