POUNAMU
plush toy based on a Steven Universe fan design
model made of Super Sculpey and felt along with packaging and accessory design

Pounamu is a New Zealand-based Gem who looses her human appearance and becomes a serpentine monster when her gem is corrupted. Her weapon is a small flying insect-like creature called a Gemfly that she uses to see long distances, and is able to control to attack far away enemies.

This comes in the toy packaging as a small brooch that is able to be attached to the toy itself or worn on garments of the child playing with it. There is also a detachable 'beak' that can be placed upon the toy and moved open/closed using magnets.

Pounamu's gem is located in her left eye, rendering her partially blind. The design of the plush is based loosely upon the taniwha, a monster from Maori legend, in tying with her name coming from the Maori term for jade or greenstone.
Detail of the face, showing the corrupted gem in the left eye.
Detail of the feet, made in Super Sculpey.
The Gemfly as a brooch, shown here as attached to a garment.
