Brief_
To develop a specimen book to showcase the chosen Monotype, ITC BODONI and Egyptian slate, in a modern way and traditional way.
Target Market_
My proposed target market is people who are interested in design, UX & UI professionals as well as typographers.
Concept_
Punctuation marks can be seen as the most vital part of a text because they make it possible to understand a written document. For the monotype brief I decided to focus exclusively on punctuation marks to show the transformation of punctuation usage from its origins and conventional usage to new invented association in online and social media.
Rationale_
My project shows both the traditional use of chosen punctuation marks, and how it can be used differently to communicate a different message. I chose to work with Monotype’s classic type ITC Bodoni and the new type Egyptian slate. I choose the ITC Bodoni classic for its sophisticated look. This look matched perfect with the traditional usage of punctuation. Egyptian slate’s punctuation was perfect for the modern usage because of its straight lines and new feel it produced to the look and feel of the books concept. My project consists out of 2 separate books, one for Bodoni and the other Egyptian Slate. I wanted to show the world that type could communicate different things and unexpected different ways.
