I never go anywhere without a sketchbook. The images typically build up in levels: a doodle, collage, or ink blot inspires an idea, which I draw over. Then I add more paint, then add lines, shading, or more detail -- whatever feels right. They aren't really planned out.
Sometimes I don't like something, so I rip it up, and turn those elements into the collage basis for something else. That's what happened for a lot of the Samurai series, partway down.
All of the colored-in pages here are full spreads, not images Photoshopped against each other. For every scanned spread, there are a zillion crappy ones I am embarrassed about.
Below are are some pencil sketches. Sometimes I like something so much that I don't add anything over it.
I want the truth to be out there, but for now, it's just me & the sketchbook.
Thanks for visiting!
