Street Musicians
A street photography series
Photography and Text by Luca Idrobo
There is a very famous aphorism of Friedrich Nietzsche, which reads:
„Wie wenig gehört zum Glücke! Der Ton eines Dudelsacks.
– Ohne Musik wäre das Leben ein Irrtum.
Der Deutsche denkt sich selbst Gott liedersingend.“
(KSA 6, 64 | GD, Sprüche und Pfeile, §33)
{How little is needed for hapiness. The sound of a bagpipe.
– Without music, life would be an error.
The German even imagines God by singing songs.}
Of course, music in Nietzsche is a movement of the will, around which there are three important elements: dance, play and laughter. This whole mobile structure sets an active way of life that embraces uncertainty and happiness at the same time. The whole idea of the eternal recurrence of the same is a way to wander about, within this moving structure of dancing, playing and laughing, as a way of repeating, each time anew, the always changing origin of our life decisions. For me, musicians, and in this case street musicians, perform exactly this mobile structure in our daily life, creating connections and spaces for the display of the music’s will. This series of pictures were taken over the last two years in different European cities and with different cameras, the same way I did with my series of Homeless Living.
