Living in United Stated, witnessing the racial issues, the constant emergence of fighting for equality. I am reminded of my homeland Vietnam, which is 54 ethnic groups stand proud together. Myself thinking about ourhomeland, have come to realize many interesting things. It is this national pride while living abroad that motivated me to create and complete the 54 Viettocs project in the past two months.

 

"I want viewers to be able to immediately recognize this is Vietnamese, not to be mistaken by anything". So i chose the Hang Trong painting style - this is folklore painting show the matrilineality and Vietnamese in general very clearly through the softness of the five senses and body.
Each painting is the a representation of the unique fashion characteristics of each ethnic groups that i know, recreated in a visual and easy to understand format, like a profile picture of the 54 ethnic groups of my homeland.
