I was honoured to be asked to provide graphics for the Scalabrini Centre of Cape Town's documentary On The Line: Inside South Africa’s immigration deportation system. Illustrated components were required to represent subject matter in the film where interview subjects needed to remain anonymous, or where footage of locations or events was not available or could not be ethically sourced.
The style of the illustration needed to feel real and human, while also getting across the precariousness, confusion and an anxiety of being a migrant in South Africa.
Some standalone elements were also provided, to allow for some flexibility in the animation and edit.
The film premiered at the Human Rights Festival at Constitution Hill.
