For this project I was asked to push my boundaries and learn or try a new area within the field. I had chosen to design, rig, and animate a character from scratch.
Quickly, I had to come up with a plan on how to execute this properly so I sketched a workflow for completing the project successfully.
Next I sketched out a rough concept of the composition and final product. I annotated the sketch to include details that may not be obvious visually.
After doing some research, I began designing my character. I used circles at the joints to ensure that the joints would move properly while rigged.
When designing, using wireframe view was extremely useful to be able to see that there would be no issues with the rig when it actually gets moving.
After testing to make sure that the limbs work when rotating and playing around, I finally had art I was looking to move forward with. The final step now, was to make sure that each layer was named and separated in order to prepare for the move into After Effects.
After successfully importing the Illustrator project, I began rigging using a free plug in called Duik Angela.
Once I got the rig working, I animated a walk/run cycle for the character, added a background and music and animated the background.
