BEHIND THE SCREEN: Cyberbullying's Hidden Toll

BEHIND THE SCREEN:
Cyberbullying's Hidden Toll
BRIEF
The objective of this project was to create a 18" x 24" or 24" x 18" infographic poster. Using design principles such as typography, hierarchy, and grids, the goal was to create an eye-catching and engaging poster that would effectively inform the viewer.

CHALLENGE
With the goal of creating an engaging poster, I decided to explore the less obvious consequences of cyberbullying. Lately, the broader problem of bullying has been overlooked. Through this project, I aimed to shed light on its impacts in a bold manner.

BRAINSTORMING AND RESEARCH
Before starting the design process, I created a moodboard to gather inspiration for my poster. Most of my inspiration was draw from technology illustrations. In addition, I looked at other infographic posters to see different ways of laying out text and content. I used all of my inspiration as a reference when making decisions on typography, layout, and the overall design of the poster.
SKETCHES
Sketches played a crucial role at the start of the design process, as they helped me plan how all the content would be laid out. In the beginning, I focused more on the layout of the graphics rather than integrating the content, resulting in a struggle. Once I started to integrate my content before the graphics, the project came together more smoothly.
PROCESS
After refining my sketch, I moved on to developing the poster digitally. Throughout the design process, I continued to add more design elements to enhance the theme. I wanted to create a bold statement about the impacts of cyberbully, so I chose a saturated color palette to draw attention from the viewers. Additionally, I added a broken computer screen in the background to represent the broken society that we live in.
FINAL POSTER
For the final poster, I placed a strong emphasis on the places where cyberbullying takes place--social media, emails, text messages, etc. To push the poster design, I added small details throughout that emphasize the internet theme. Incorporating details such as the "@" and social media bookmark symbol made the poster even more eye-catching.
REFLECTION
Overall, this project was a great learning experience on combining typography with graphics in a layout. It was enjoyable to be able to work with my chosen color palette. This project also helped me think more deeply about how to design certain themes in a way to enhance content.
