120 Hours 2024: ’The Student Competition’
Competition Brief:

The student competition for the long-awaited construction of the National Art Museum of Andorra brings together young talents to address the primary concerns of contemporary architectural design. This competition focuses on the evolving dynamics of the architectural realm, emphasizing sustainability, societal impact, aesthetics, and functionality. Participants are expected to present innovative designs that reflect the rich cultural heritage of Andorra and introduce an iconic touch to the cityscape. Additionally, in line with the Bilbao effect, students are encouraged to consider how their designs can potentially catalyze urban transformation, revitalization, and economic growth. It's worth noting that participants have a limited timeframe of just 120 hours to develop their projects. This competition provides a platform for young architects to showcase their creativity and contribute to shaping the future of architectural understanding.
Project Description:

The Parasite Pyramids aims to increase pedestrian circulation by integrating the project area with the public square. The museum is embedded underground and can be accessed via a ramp provides an uninterrupted circulation opportunity in the square. The project optimizes land use by placing the museum underground. On square, observation tower offers 360-degree panoramic views of Andorra with each triangular vista pyramids on top of the tower and serving as a landmark visible from every corner of the region.

The tower is covered with triangular pyramid parasites that extending from the tower and
dispersing throughout the city represent the spread of culture and creativity like roots
of a tree. Just as roots anchor a tree and gather nutrients, these structures anchor the
museum’s cultural identity while reaching out to enrich every part of the city. These
structures, replicated in the square, transform into digital art exhibition spaces through
holographic projections in the nights, seamlessly merging physical and digital spaces.
Pyramidal installations act like spreading parasites, embedding themselves in different
areas, bringing art and inspiration to unexpected places, and engaging with the community. These installations turn streets into galleries, spark conversations, and foster creativity.
