Snow Storm
Snow Storm is a collection of paper snowflakes, hand-cut, painted, and carefully layered to create a three-dimensional form. This was a self-directed project exploring exciting design, artistic, and papercraft techniques, including watercolour experimentation. I wanted to investigate new ways of producing intricate geometric designs, and found a radial repeat created interesting results, as well as pleasing my creative passion for symmetry and repetition. Combining these elements allowed me to experiment with layering to add depth and contrast, and see how the various pieces interact and connect, similar to the complex structure of a snowflake itself. The chosen colours are reflective of the subject, supporting the cold, wintry theme, and the unpredictability of watercolour is parallel to the uniqueness of every snowflake. As a self-led project, I enjoyed exploring new ways in which simple geometric forms can fuse together for an aesthetically satisfying result.
