Southern Living Magazine: August Issue

My very first published work for a magazine. Last month, my friend back in college asked me to do a piece for their August issues. The whole concept of the art work was to illustrate the last meals of star icons from the past, so I was tasked to do Princess Diana and Marilyn Monroe. Though I lack the knowledge of these women I looked up on their life stories, lifestyle and even their fashion statements just to have an idea on how to visualize their meal yet remaining true to my illustration style.

After illustrating I photographed it to make it look realistc and to be honest, it's my first to do a lifestyle photography/illustration when in reality my lifestyle is pretty low profile. But I skimmed through photos even Kinfolk to have an idea. I based the set-up by the icon's personality and era. Princess Diana being regal, demure and royality I made sure that it looked like those afternoon tea in England and pulled out some of my mom's fancy cups and teapots. As for Marilyn, being an icon during the 60's I focused on patterns which was emphasized on the place mat and lavish lifestyle of the rich and famous, though you can't see the bottle of wine.

Even if I was given a short time, I had so much fun to experiment on lifestyle illustration/photography and I hope to learn more about it. I'm really a newb when it comes to these things when I hardly eat out or buy stuff  'cause I like to keep things simple, I appreciate things that way :) anyway I know it's already September but please do get a copy of Southern Living Magazine there are amazing art features of local artist for the month of August.
Princess Diana's last meal: Dover Sole
Marilyn Monroe last meal: Stuffed Mushrooms.
