Packaging Line, Unboxing, and
Point of Purchase Display
(Crate&Barrel Office Supply Standard)
Malorie Lee
The following project explored a packaging, unboxing, and display design for a series of office supplies for Crate&Barrel. The project was structured time-wise completely by myself with nothing more than a completion date set for a month and a half after the start date of the project. The packaging design looks into a new target audience and product for the company further explained in the process book below. The unboxing experience explores how the product would come from company to buyer, and the display stand explored an in-store approach between the company and the buyer. The project studied how Crate&Barrel might change the design of their current appearance to fulfill the needs of these new products and customers in depth. Enjoy a photo series of each portion of the project below.

Packaging Line:
Notice the abstract illustration style to reach a more luxury-seeking audience. The monochrome color pallet also sought to establish a rich and clean feeling for this specific packaging line. Taking ideas about Crate&Barrel’s "homifying" style, these designs show a clean, homey, and minimal look in an office space.
Unboxing Experience:
The unboxing experience expanded on the idea of rich and luxurious supplies. The deep contrast, provoking exterior and interior messaging, and beautiful illustrations help connect the customer with the idea of upgraded office space. Note the way the packaging line fits together in style and shape, finding ways to compliment the brand and line in multiple spaces and contexts.
Point of Purchase Display:
The point-of-purchase display uses the same established elements of the project in new formats. The concepts of contrast and repetition remain consistent, while the uses of illustration and fill colors are used in different ways to keep a consistent look for this project. The shape of the stand is reminiscent of the unboxing experience and the angular form is consistent with the sleek and rich look of the forms in the new line.
