A late post of a piece created for a good friends 18th that was last year and was the first commission painting that Id done as a whole.
For my friends 18th Birthday, the aim was to paint her horse called Blade as shown in the photograph below with the main influence being Impressionism as the painting for me was very much about showing the life and movement through brushstrokes of the horse and the feeling of life in general from nature and animals.
The central focal point from the reference photo is very much the head and so made that the focus for the painting and did this by working from the outside with a blend of brushstrokes and slowly but surely getting more refined and incorporating elements of realism in the centre for which Im pleased with the two extremes and the overall consistency behind the work despite thes two somewhat conflicting ideas.
There is also the colour green used on the face as a way of showing a reflective quality from the grass on the horses face and again emphasise the life in both the subject and the painting and I hope you all like it as much as I do!! It was great when my friend said she really liked it too!
