For this Skillshare lesson, we had to pick a book that we were going to read and make a drop cap that would actually make the cover of the book.
The Catcher in the rye is a favourite book of mine, I've read it again and again over the years, although I realized I've had to read it once more as I didn't remember important details of the whole plot that would might given me an interesting point of view.
I've decided that the letter "C" was the appropriate one for my drop cap cover as the book refers to the "Catcher..." but also to the main character of the book named Holden Caulfield.
After numerous ideas and thoughts I kept these three sketches to decide which one was going to make it to the cover.
The "catcher" - his arms forming a C
The maze - still unsure what to put inside the maze (his school and his house? maybe some objects from the plot?), didn't want to make spoilers though...
The broken record - it's from an incident (or an accident) that takes place in the book.
Finally, the maze was chosen, as it depicts better the main character's mood and the problems that he is dealing with throughout the book.
