APTOS x RISO

To celebrate our new @Microsoft365 default font #Aptos, we are giving away five limited-edition risograph posters 🖼️ inspired by our new font, created by our own Microsoft designers, and printed by the amazing @luckyrisograph.

For those not familiar, risograph is a duplicator printing method for high-volume graphic arts prints and photographs utilizing high vibrancy inks from Japan. Often described as a mix between screenprinting and photocopying, the process involves printing one color at a time repeatedly, making each copy unique. Because of the process each of these posters are absolutely one of one and today YOU have an opportunity to win one of these special-edition beauties.

"A" by You Zhang
"Drawing inspiration from the RISO printing process, layered type prints, and halftone patterns, the goal aims to bring together old-school techniques and modern 3D software. By emulating the layering process, the piece showcases a seamless fusion between the digital and analog worlds."

"P" by Horacio Gutierrez

Walking through California, I found a tree
it had a strange shape, it was shaped like a P
a P with a lean and strong trunk,
with round fruits like oranges, so I was excited.

With my beach hat, to the bridge of Aptos, California I was heading
To take advantage of the salt of the sea, since it has been a long time since my burrow did not come out
It was summer, and with the sun on me, you won't believe my luck that day
Since, in the middle of my trip, a little box would also find me

Full of gadgets, with shapes from different worlds it seems
I found myself in a shell, a diamond and in the middle an O that reflected the sunset
Sitting on the beach, in front of the T-shaped bridge
I thanked for the wind, the box, my oranges, and staying."

"T" by Alexis Copeland
"My inspiration is an homage to the iconic pier in Aptos, California, which has endured countless storms yet has remained a beloved gathering place for beach goers and fisherman throughout history. Given it's recent demolition, I aimed to reimagine its essence, evoking its connection to the ocean, community, and spirit with the added twist of Riso inks. The result is a surreal, dreamlike celebration of Aptos’ beauty, resilience, and a reminder of the nature that bring people together."

"O" by Yulia Makhmudova
"Imagine walking through a lush forest, surrounded by the sounds of rustling leaves and chirping birds. As you walk, you come across a beautiful leaf, a unique rock, and a delicate flower petal. You collect these nature finds in a box, each one holding a special memory of your journey. The letter O was inspired by these nature finds. Aptos remind me of this box because as a new font it will be used in so many projects from corporate spreadsheet to a birthday card and each one of them hold something unique and different."

"S" by Aaron Martinez Garcia
"The goal is to find an amazing path where the New APTOS typeface and the Riso technique are combined using beautiful inks. A cereal box is the perfect example to use the variants of a font, and why not? a big red monster."
