"The Little Prince" Book Cover

  The Little Prince
by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
For this project, I created three different book covers for Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's "The Little Prince" The instructions include making a cover using handmade materials that I can make by hand what I choose to use card paper to create the scene, a cover with typography which I decide to use the glitter letters, and another design I picked. I asked to use important symbols in my designs instead of capturing only scenes.

However, the design has basic elements that many people relate to as the rose, there are unique elements such as the mountain with stars that reflect when Little Prince visits various planets, including Earth, and addresses themes of loneliness, friendship, love, and loss. The moon is not like a common moon, with this I want to give a message that "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly: what is essential is invisible to the eye." as the little prince says in the book.

I decided to make two with the name in Spanish since it was my first language, it reminded me of when I read this book when I was 9 years old, it was magical to design thinking about what I read in another language, and now in a different one.

The typography gives a sense of magic, the main message of this is to find magic in life, in the little things according to the book, there is something sometimes adults forget about. I did magic with my pen creating the lettering for this cover.
Handmade design, using card paper, like cardboard, draws the figures of the characters and creates relief but makes them feel real, the main message comes from the story of the book where the pilot and a boy from a distant planet who are both stranded in the desert and share what they've learned about life. The book's message is that what is most important is not what can be seen, but what is given value through love, time, and effort.
My design choice used vectors to create the stars, and the rest of the figures, the moon with some paws as marks with the message of this image is for the fox and the rose that are together, helps the prince realize that his rose is special because fox tells him a threefold secret: that only the heart can see clearly because the eyes miss what is important; that the time the prince has spent on his rose is what makes his rose so important; and that a person is forever responsible for what he has done.
