Embarking on a journey that seamlessly weaves the magic of 2D animation with the soulful melodies of Algerian singer and composer Nassim Djezma, I present a captivating project that transcends cultural boundaries and embodies a fusion of artistic brilliance. As a seasoned freelance professional illustrator and 2D animation artist with over a decade of experience, I meticulously crafted every element of this endeavor from inception to fruition.
Executed in a distinctive retro Japanese anime style, the animation breathes life into the streets of Oran, capturing the essence of the locale with meticulous attention to detail. From scripting to storyboarding, background creation to animation, and the final touches of video effects and compositing, every frame emanates the passion and commitment poured into the project.
Upon its release on April 3, 2021, the project made its mark on digital platforms, reaching audiences worldwide through Nassim Djezma's YouTube channel and my Instagram account. The response has been overwhelming, with nearly 90k views on YouTube and an outpouring of positive feedback, echoing the resonance of this unprecedented collaboration in the cultural landscape of Algeria. This endeavor stands not just as a visual masterpiece but as a beacon of inspiration, beckoning artists and enthusiasts to dream beyond convention and chart new territories in the realm of art and music.
Set against the backdrop of Oran, Algeria, this three-minute music video unfolds the poignant tale of Yass, a 26-year-old grappling with heartbreak after his girlfriend, So So, abruptly severs all ties. The narrative, inspired by real-life experiences, evolves through the prism of friendship as Yass finds solace and strength in the unwavering support of his companions.
The year-long journey, spanning six months of dedicated working days, utilized the artistic prowess of Clip Studio Paint and Adobe After Effects, ensuring a visual spectacle that transcends the ordinary. This ambitious endeavor aimed not just to create a music video but to pioneer a groundbreaking collaboration between art and music, setting a precedent for artistic endeavors in Algeria.
More than a mere artistic venture, this project aspires to inspire the cultural scene, urging it to break free from the shackles of mediocrity.
