The Help - O - Meter was designed to be a communication tool for non-verbal children in the classroom. Many researchers have proven that it can be hard for teachers to understand when non-verbal children have questions or are not grasping a concept. The Help - O - Meter aims to change that. With it's dovetail box design and Arduino components, communicating in the classroom becomes easy for the student and teacher alike.
As seen in the video above, there are three light modes that correspond to how a student is feeling about a concept. Red stands for "very confused/I cannot move on until I have help". Orange/Yellow stands for "I have questions but can still proceed with the concept". Finally, green stands for "I completely understand the concept and feel confident to proceed". There are separate buttons, all labeled for ease of use, and a button that corresponds to "off" mode so a student can turn the lights off when they are not trying to convey a message to the teacher.
