Visual Branding

Island Harvest had relied on volunteers and outside vendors to fulfill it's graphic design needs. As a result of too many influences, it had no recognzable visual brand beyond a well-designed logo.

As Island Harvest's first on-staff graphic designer I developed a professional-looking, easy to recognize visual brand that would better represent this long-established non-profit food bank.

The choice of Novarese was chosen because it is a contemporary, open looking font with a feminine feel that I felt suggested the nuturing quality of food. It's medium weight gives the page an even color which makes long blocks of text more inviting, while the contrasting bolder variations stand out well without looking clunky.

The colors were lifted from the existing logo with lighter shades of green developed, that would retain the nourishing connotation of the green in the logo, to be used in gradients and where a lighter green would work better.

A silhouette of Long Island is used because all of Island Harvest's resources are devoted locally to alleviating the hunger problem on Long Island.
