Hello everyone! First of all, happy 2024 to everyone, and I hope you had an amazing New Year's Eve!
Well, I'm here to post my evolution, from a piece of art I did in 2019
I'm quite happy with the results and how I achieved this outcome. To give a bit of context, Cecille is a character I created, a girl who gains powers to talk to animals. I started developing the character and then tried to complement the project by adding her house. I remember that my biggest difficulty at the time was understanding what I wanted to show. I was creating the scene, but I wanted to include the character and didn't know which to give more attention to. This kind of problem occurs often when you do things without a purpose. Looking at the old scene today, there are many issues with the composition of elements, with many empty areas, scale problems, and this feeling of an empty place without life happening around.
This new image was made with a purpose that goes beyond just showing finishing skills. Today, using 3D for almost my entire process, but also fixing these composition and structure problems that are now very evident to me.
I really enjoyed redoing this concept, and I believe that today I have achieved a concept art result that strikes a balance I really like between speed and final finishing quality. I always wanted the images I made to actually look like a scene from a finished movie, and that all of this was done indeed as a concept and not as an illustration, especially because we know well the short time we have to generate ideas and finalize them. Fortunately, I think I managed to get it right and shape the best possible way to achieve a result with this quality without spending more time than necessary and without getting stuck either.
I made significant changes in the design of the house, the neighborhood, and especially the style, bringing this stop-motion vibe to the whole scene.
